Televised week 2 auditions continued in Charleston and Washington D.C. for So You Think You Can Dance 2008. It was definitely a much better show than yesterday’s auditions in Dallas and Salt Lake City.

There were a few memorable dancers but let’s list the gold ticket holders first before my commentary.

Going to Las Vegas are: Sheila Kaiser, Jeremiah Hughes, Anthony Hart, Antwane Hart, Courtney Galiano, Claire Callaway, Megan Campbell, Markus Shields and Brandon Bryant.

From the girls, I liked Sheila Kaiser and Courtney Galiano. I think I’ve mentioned there quite a few girls I was impressed with in my previous recaps. It looks like a very strong crop of girls for So You Think You Can Dance Season 4. So much so that I think they are starting all to blend. Someone is going to have to do something spectacular to pull away from the pack to get noticed.

Oh, and Claire Callaway is back from season 2. She was the girl who injured her ankle and Neil Lythgoe gave her an open invitation to sail straight through to Vegas in season 3. But she got pregnant instead. I just have to say she was a mess in her SYTYCD Season 4 audition. It’s a good thing that she had an “in” from her previous experience on So You Think You Can Dance because without it, I don’t think her “dancing” would have gotten through to the choreography round. It was just sad to see. You could tell that she is thinking “what if” she hadn’t injured her ankle in the first place… she probably would have started her dancing career, wouldn’t have gotten pregnant, etc. But it is what it is and I hope she doesn’t blurt out that she regrets having her kid as that’s the vibe she was giving. She’s still young at 20. I just wished she would have given it another year to get her dancing back on track because I don’t think she’s going to get far in Vegas. She’s just not ready yet.

For the boys, I really liked Markus Shields. Nothing that we hadn’t seen before but I thought it was a very beautiful tribute to his late mother. I was touched.

And then we have Brandon Bryant. I can easily see him in the final 2 if he has any semblance of personality. A front runner for the guys by far.

And a special mention to Anthony Bryant. He had auditioned before for So You Think You Can Dance Season 1 but was cut because he was too effeminate. Well, he was dancing to a ribbon… This year, he came back in a camouflage outfit to be more masculine. His outfit was distracting but no denying the guy is a trained dancer and his technique is superb. I can’t believe he didn’t go straight through to Vegas. To add insult to injury, he got cut in the choreography round! Given the spate of losers they let through to Vegas, this is criminal. Yeah, he threw a diva fit at the end and he lacks a lot of maturity but you can’t deny his talent. He deserved a ticket to Vegas.

That’s it for this week’s recap of So You Think You Can Dance Season 4. Onto next week!

Brandon Bryant was by the far the best dancer I have seen this year. I had to watch him over and over and in slow motion trying to see how he had that kind of power and flexibility! Can’t wait to see more.

What song did Courtney Galiano dance to. She was amazing. Hope she goes far. Our favorite.

I agree with your comment about Anthony Bryant. He’s a Juilliard graduate and his technique was at least on par with Brandon Bryant who they drooled over. Nigel just didn’t want a male divo on the show. Anthony Bryan might not have gone far with the American public, but he deserved a Vegas trip.

Courtney Galiano danced to “Lost” by Anouk. Pretty lyrics. You can even get a ringtone for it.

Our house is totally for Brandon Bryant. We were blown away by his strength, talent, and masculinity. My daughter and I have bookmarked his audition on Youtube to watch over and over.
